I have works 9. You will have to try to find an installer for Works 9 and then see if it will allow you to use the Work 8 key to activate it. Your other option is to use a “VM”, virtual machine, tool. In it you would install an older version of Windows than can run Works 8. Although Virtual PC is officially only for professional or business editions of Windows, it can be installed on home editions without any problems.

I just transferred files of mine in Works to my new computer Dell inspiron It has changed all my works files to word and won’t let me access them because I don’t use or have word.
You have to install Works first. It’s a discontinued program, but it still installs to Windows 10 and works fine as I use it myself. It’s not compatible with Word but apparently the trial version of Word on the new Dell picked them up in error and is trying to open them. So install Microsoft Works 9. In addition the factory install is an inferior install of Windows that most tech enthusiasts won’t run in the first place. When I tried to open all hell broke loose and when I wouldn’t pay their blood money for Word I was locked out of my files. There was not way to open automatically with work and all were changed to word.
