VMWare says that it’s looking for user feedback as it “irons out kinks” and prepares for more formal support later in The company does note, however, that VMWare Fusion is still a work in progress on Apple Silicon Macs, and there are some limitations to the support. Fusion won’t support VMs running across different architectures, for example. Also, users can’t currently create macOS -based virtual machines, though VMWare is looking into that for the future.

Verified Purchase. The problem was that I’m an avid Quicken user and have an inventory of Windows software that I was either not thrilled with replacing or were simply not available on the Mac did you know that there is practically NOTHING out there for doing your finances with a Mac?
Not quite ready for the online Minted app. There are a couple of ways you can set this up where you either isolate your VM guest from the Mac Host or you can share your file systems – it’s up to you what your needs are.
For myself I wanted to have the Mac responsible for all backups using the Time machine and an external 3 TB USB drive as well as be the authoritative source of all information. I wanted to be able to share pictures, music and other data between the guest and host. In Evernote for Mac, right clicking on a PDF file or an Excel spreadsheet allows me to open these documents in the application in the Windows VM where I do what I need to do and then, when I save the document they are updated in the Mac application seamlessly.
The key is to explicitly open each of these apps from Mac’s Launchpad once and from then on the apps work perfectly they WON’T open from the context menu before you do that Launchpad step.
I recognize that I am not using my VMWare fusion to it’s fullest potential in that I only have 2 VMs set up for it and I’m currently not guesting a bunch of Linux or other VMs in addition to Windows but for now this setup meets my needs and lets me keep the household finances and my own photography and other pursuits going just fine as I adjust and migrate to the Mac platform.
I’ve been a Windows user for a long, long time – I’ve wanted to switch to Mac, but a few legacy applications have always kept a PC on my desk. That all changed last week. I bought the new i7 Quad Core Mac Mini to replace my old Core 2 Duo Mini, and my original plan was to run it side-by-side with my existing Windows computer using a video switcher.
However all my VM’s previously were built from scratch, brand-new instances created from the. ISO files for the various Windows versions. It just about couldn’t have been simpler!
Now I can pull up my Windows system in a window, or full-screen. I can even run Windows applications in “Unity Mode” where they appear to just be running directly in Mac OS X – resizable, normal-behaving Windows that behave just like any other application on the Mac. I expect to use the Windows instance less and less as I get more acclimated to the Mac and retire legacy Windows apps.
In the meantime, though, it’s great to be able to transition slowly – and I sure don’t miss the noisy Dell tower computer! I hesitated to buy Fusion because I originally felt that the free open source alternative, VirtualBox, would largely be satisfactory for most of my needs. VirtualBox was acquired by Oracle, and thus like everything else Oracle touches, pretty much has gone to heck.
Flipping back and forth between host and guest, in theory, shouldn’t be a big difference between the two, but from my experience it is. Transitioning between the two is painless in Fusion, and an experiment in frustration and cursing with VirtualBox.
It general I’m impressed with the latest version. With this version of Fusion, the graphics is much faster, though still a ways to go compared to booting natively in Linux. One issue I’ve run into is that the display resolution is reset every time that I suspend and restart the virtual machine.

Derekcurrie Mar 11 Thousands of servers running vCenter server could be in for a nasty surprise CVE allows hacker with no authorization to upload files to vulnerable vCenter servers that are publicly accessible over port CVE affects vCenter Server versions 6.
Users running one of these versions should update to 6. Mcr Jan 5 I’ve tried it, it works, for the most part, still a lot of work to do, but interesting. Lingering application issues, emulation of Intel, problems running older bit Intel apps under emulation. I wonder if VMware has a skunk works project going on to do the same; I’m sure VMWare is watching how the Parallels experiment goes and whether consumers take to it.
I think all that would be needed is a special bootloader to trick Windows ARM into thinking it is a Surface Pro or something. Original and best, runs linux flawlessley and fast. Steer clear of all imitations. Miner Nov 23 I liked it a lot, found the upgrade cycle more friendly for my wallet, but unfortunately at the moment it does no longer work with the Boot Camp partition in Big Sur. Parallels does, so I switched, and it is performing well.
I do see myself coming back to VMWare though, once all issues are ironed out. Gets the job done. Faster than the competition. Odysseus Sep 17 So Fusion 12 is now free for personal use. How does it compare to Parallels 16? If you prefer to use the full resolution of the display for high-res detail instead of pixel doubling, that’s also supported for all OSes. They didn’t take the time to do the back-end theming work and instead opted for straight pixel doubling of the entire video buffer.
The result is softer icons, text, and windows throughout:. On a real retina display, the effect won’t be as pronounced as what I’m seeing on my display, but Fusion’s is still the weaker of the two retina implementations for Windows 7 and 8. In Linux and other OSes, both VMware and Parallels do either pixel doubling or full-res tiny mode, depending on your settings. Windows alerts should show up in your list of notifications.
